Traveling to Scotland

London to Gretna Green on the Scottish Border is just over 320 miles. Manchester to Glasgow is 218 miles, while Newcastle to Edinburgh is a mere 108 miles.

The roads linking England and Scotland are fast, modern and generally free of the traffic jams that are a way of life in some parts of the country.

The two main north – south routes are the M6/M74 on the west side of the country and the A1 on the east side. As you approach Scotland, you can follow a choice of quieter alternative routes such as the A7 and the A68 through the Scottish Borders.

Irish visitors can take a choice of direct crossings over the Irish Sea that link Ireland with the ports of Stranraer, Cairnryan and Troon in South-West Scotland – an area that is particularly popular with caravanners.

Visitors from continental Europe can now enjoy direct ferry access between Zeebrugge in Belgium and Rosyth, a few miles to the north of Edinburgh. There are also numerous direct ferry services from Benelux and Scandinavia into the ports of Hull and Newcastle in Northern England, from where it’s a short drive into Scotland.

However you travel and whenever you come, you’ll find traveling to Scotland is easy, quick and pretty much stress free.
